The following figure shows hypothetical results from a paternity test using the RFLP polymorphism developed from this example. The offspring is a heterozytoge--she has one copy of Allele 1 (the single band closest to the start lane) and one copy of Allele 2 (the two bands that have migrated farther onto the gel). The mother is a homozygote for Allele 2. The genotypes of the two putative fathers are depicted in the rightmost lanes. What would you conclude from these data?
