Factor Analysis Assignment
Perform a factor analysis on one of any of the three data sets listed below. Write up the results. Please make certain that you read the section in the class notes about factor analysis, especially the part on how to write up a factor analysis. Note that data sets are not always in raw, ASCII files. Hence, for SAS, you must use libname statements. Email me if you have trouble reading the data.
Data set 1. Interests data set (both a SAS data set and an SPSS data set called interest are located on ~carey/p7291dir). Do the variables carpentr through landscpr. These data give vocational interests preferences for a series of occupations for the first 250 individuals in a large sample.
Data set 2. Crime data set (both a SAS and an SPSS data set called crime are located on ~carey/p7291dir). Do the variables murder through auto. This data set gives crime rates per 100,000 (I think) for different offenses in the 50 states.
Data set 3. Harman (there is only a SAS data set called harman; as of this writing I have not figured out how to get this into SPSS). This is a classic data set in the literature on factor analysis. It gives the performance of about 125 individuals on 24 different measures of cognitive skill.
