Metereology Update

We are looking forward to our NCAR field trip taking place this Wednesday. After learning about the atmosphere and what causes weather, students are anxiously anticipating an interesting and informative presentation. In addition, students can't wait to check out all the cool interactive weather displays and activities!

As our meterology unit comes to a close, we will be taking a closer look at storms, including tornadoes and hurricanes. Wendy Schneider-Abshire, a meterologist from UCAR, has graciously volunteered to speak to our class on storm safety tips. Be sure to ask your budding meteorologist to share some tips that will keep you safe during inclement weather.

This has been a great unit and students have gained much knowledge. As a cumulative project the students will have the opportunity to become meteorologists. They will be asked to choose a region of the United States and forecast its weather for the upcoming week.

F.Y.I.

The HPEG Community Meeting will take place on October 8th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All are encouraged to attend. We will be electing a K-1 representative and discussing school related issues. School budget items will be presented as well. If you are planning on attending and are in need of child care, please call the office.

Reminder

The field trip to NCAR is planned for this Wednesday, October 3rd. Please remember to send a disposable lunch and appropriate clothes for outside.

Social Studies

The study of the Revolutionary War has been insightful and interesting for our students. We have been reading a great deal from the America's Story textbook regarding our nation's independence. Students have been working on maps, timelines, speeches, comprehension sheets, and researching individuals of historical importance. Soon they will be writing biographies on these historical figures. This unit of study flows nicely into the founding of the new nation, with the study of the Constitution and the branches of government.
