Determining System Information
To successfully install HP-UX there are a few decisions you will need
to make before starting the installation.
The decisions you need to make are:
- Select a system disk from the available hard disk drives.
- How much swap space, or virtual memory you will need.
The installation suggests the amount of swap needed, based
on the system hardware configuration. This may be used without modification.
- The FQDN and Internet address
for the system.
- If this machine is a DNS client
you will need to know the DNS host's Internet address and it's hostname. For
Indiana University this information is located in the Support Center KnowledgeBase.
- Information about the local time zone.
- The Internet address of the local router or gateway so that the
default route can be set.

Backing up your System Before Installation
If you are re-installing or upgrading it is very important that current
backups of the files on the system are created.
