SGI IRIX Installation

Silicon Graphics offers online access to their manuals. The manuals, IRIX installation and Personal System Administration are essential information.

Additional software may be installed from the Unix Workstation Support Group's network distribution server. Here are the steps required to view and install the available software.
  1. To obtain access the server contact the UWSG TO set up appropriate permissions for your machine.
  2. Start up swmgr, from the Toolchest (System->Software Manager).
  3. At the top in the "Available Software" entry box, enter:
    guest@sgi.ucs.indiana.edu:/IRIX/5.3/VP/dist
    This distribution contains Varsity Program software such as compilers and NFS.
  4. Press the "Customize Installation" button.
  5. Wait for the information to be loaded, then review the available software and choose which packages for installation.
