Dear Parents: Thank you for several days of successful conferences. We appreciate meeting with you to discuss your child's grades, work habits and social growth. We are excited at the growth, across the grade level, that we've noticed since September. Also, thanks to all who contributed towards our delicious, catered lunches during conferences. Ms. Dolph, Mrs. Vosloh, and Mrs. O'Loughlin Science: We continue to study geology through hands on experiments, videos, and direct teaching. Feel free to look through your child's geology folder at any time. We have begun our unit on Geological Time. As is a tradition in fourth grade, we will be presenting a Geological Time Museum the Friday before winter holiday. We expect to have many guests, students, and parents at this educational experience. Information and a class calendar, should have come home in your |
child's Friday Folder. Students will have class time to work
on the written component. The visual and interactive
components are expected to be completed out side of class. If
necessary, please coordinate with your child's teacher for
before and after school availability. To support our scientific endeavors, we will be going to the Prehistoric Journey exhibit and the Gem and Mineral Room at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on December 5th. We will also have scheduled a paleontologist to visit our school the afternoon of the 13th. The entire project (written, visual, and interactive) is due Friday, December 21st, as our museum is from 9:30 - 11:30. ![]() |
Social Studies: We are continuing with our studies in government with the Constitution, Bill of Rights, early presidents, and reformers. Please ask your child to recite the Preamble to the Constitution. In conjunction with our studies of the legal system, we will be performing the mock trial of Gold E. Locks and the Three Bears. Both classes will be performing for the fifth grades and parents on Wednesday, December 19th, at 10:40 a.m. Language Arts: In writing, students continue to use parts of the Six Traits and First Steps writing models. Their Geological Time report will be a five paragraph essay (see outline). In reading, we are using the America's Story text book, Open Court readings, and the Core Knowledge suggested novels of Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island. Math: We continue our work with the Saxon Math Program. Spelling: We are on lesson 15 in the level 5 Scholastic Spelling Program. |
Core Virtues: December's Core Virtue is "Charity"; please discuss with your child what charity means to you and your family. Ms. Dolph's class is responsible for the school-wide assembly this month. Mrs. Vosloh's and Mrs. O'Loughlin's class will do the Core Virtue Assembly in January. Party Time: Both classes will have their winter holiday party the afternoon of the 21st. You may be contacted by the party coordinators this month. As always, we'd like to thank all our classroom volunteers for their time and energy. Our jobs as teachers would be much more difficult without your support! ![]() ![]() |
