The Active Construction of Experience interview is administered at age specific intervals to core CAP subjects only (CAP adopted or matched control children and their first* younger siblings) . The ACE1 is administered between the ages of 18-19, the ACE2 between ages19-20, and the ACE3 at age 21-22 (although some ACE3s are administered later if subject is unavailable at ages 21-22). Subjects are also mailed a questionnaire with the ACE1 and ACE2.
The ACE was originally administered as a stand alone interview, however, it is now been integrated into the NNSD interview. Subjects who are between 18-22 receive an NNSD interview combined with an ACE interview.
The ACE questions tend to be more open ended and subjective, assessing subject's verbatim responses to questions about education, work, relationships, and life experiences. Data dictionaries for the ACE1, ACE2, & ACE3 are available below.
* In the adopting families, both the first adopted and first younger birth child of the parents (if any) were included.
