Conference Opportunities

Lab1Part of the training at IBG includes an emphasis on teaching trainees how to prepare presentations and practice public speaking. Students are required to present three journal club presentations. Two of these are usually a discussion of published manuscript of their choosing, and a third presentation, usually near the end of their training, is given about their own research.

Every year IBG holds an annual "Poster Day" prior to the start of the academic school year, where students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty display and discuss posters that have been presented at scientific meetings throughout the preceding year.

In addition, most trainees are supported to attend at least one scientific conference annually, provided they are first author for a poster or oral presentation. These meetings include the annual meetings of the Behavior Genetics Association, Neuroscience, American Society of Human Genetics, and the Research Society on Alcoholism, among others.

Finally, Dr. John Hewitt hosts an annual Workshop on the Methodology of Twin and Family Studies in Boulder, which is taught by international scholars in the field of behavior genetics and attended by many of our graduate students and postdocs.
